05/30/17 Tuesday Little Falls, NY to Sylvan Beach, NY

Left in morning rain from Little Falls and ended up at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake. Passed a few cities and towns along the way that I had considered stopping at. Basically, I was looking for a town with a restaurant and other amenities within walking distance. Sylvan Beach looked to fit the bill. It's sort of like Ocean City, MD, only maybe 5 to 10% of the size. It's located on a large fresh water lake; has a nice beach for swimming; there's a boardwalk and an amusement part; also a descent selection of restaurants. The canal goes right by it with 1,200 feet of bulkhead to tie up at. Late in the afternoon National Weather Service posted hazardous weather warnings for the area. Shortly after tying up I was joined by another trawler, Linda and Dave on RiverDancer. We made plans to meet for dinner later. Then the skies opened up with heavy rain and lightning. Like magic, the weather past at our arranged dinner hour. We had a nice dinner at one of the local restaurants, took a walk on the beach, and then snapped some nice sunset pictures.

Ever present rain clouds. This section of the canal more resembles a waterway through a forest without any hills.

A number of interesting streams intersect the canal. Would liked to have stopped and explored them with my kayak.

Some nice homes on the canal just before Sylvan Beach.

Sunset on Oneida Lake after a day of rain.

Slow Hand tied to the bulkhead after the heavy downpour.
