05/19/17 Friday Atlantic Highlands, NJ to Statue of Liberty (part 1)

Short boat ride today. Lots to see and feel.

Morning finds me next to a cute Lord Nelson Victory Tug named "Victorious".

The Atlantic Highlands are a ridge line along the South side of the bay. Several rows of houses are nestled into the wooded hillside. The houses get more grand towards the peak.

The harbor security boat on the other side of the breakwater.

USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) is an Amphibious Assault Ship. Apparently the Navy has a small facility there.

New York has lots of commercial traffic.

The Verrazano-Narrows bridge marks the entrance proper into NewYork harbor.

Fort Wadsworth from the revolutionary war, guards the West side.

The high speed ferries do 30 knots and can come up behind you quickly.

The older Staten Island ferries thankfully go much slower.

The lady across the river is patiently waiting for me.

Ground Zero is next.

Ted
