05/20/17 Saturday Statue of Liberty to Nyack, NY

Today was a short 28 mile ride up the Hudson to Nyack, NY. Going against the 2.5 knot current and 15 to 20 knot winds in the morning, it took a while.

Heading past Ground Zero on a grey morning with occasional spitting rain, the mood is more somber.

Entry way off the river to the memorial.

The Intrepid museum is a retired aircraft carrier with an impressive collection of warbirds. Most of the American, allied, and enemy planes and helicopters are on the flight deck. In addition to warbirds, the museum has an SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, the first Space Shuttle Enterprise, and one of the Supersonic Concorde airliners. Imagine crossing the Atlantic in under 3 hours! If you're in New York, this is worth a half a day of your time.

The shoreline of the river is starting to rise.

The George Washington double decker bridge. This is a 14 lane suspension bridge!

The shoreline gets decidedly higher above the George Washington bridge.

Big tugs and barges travel all the way up the Hudson river.

Anyone up for some rock climbing?

The Tapan Zee bridge old and new

Little spooky driving under the other side of this new bridge.

Nyack, NY

Lots of sailboats for being on a river.
